My Mobile Mechanix (“My Mobile Mechanix,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates a marketplace that connects drivers (“Drivers”) with independent mobile mechanics (“Mechanics”) for roadside assistance and on-site auto repair. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to our website, mobile experience, and related services (collectively, the “Services”).
By creating an account or using the Services, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
1. Who This Policy Applies To
This policy applies to two main groups, and certain sections call out where the practices differ:
- Drivers — people who request roadside or mobile repair through the Services.
- Mechanics — independent professionals who accept jobs and perform repairs through the Services.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide
- Account details: nickname/handle, email address, phone number, password, and (for Mechanics) business name, service area, ASE or other certifications, and profile photo or logo.
- Vehicle information (Drivers): year, make, model, and engine size. We deliberately do not require VIN or license plate.
- Job details: symptoms, photos, chat messages, quotes, and ratings/reviews.
- Payment details: handled by our payment processor (Stripe). We receive limited tokens and metadata (last 4 digits, card brand, payout status) but do not store full card numbers or bank account numbers on our servers.
- Identity verification (Mechanics): information collected by Stripe Connect Express to satisfy KYC requirements, including legal name, date of birth, address, government ID, and tax identifiers. Stripe collects this directly; we receive only verification status.
- Support communications: messages you send us about disputes, refunds, or safety reports.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Location data: Drivers share approximate location so we can dispatch nearby Mechanics. The exact pin is hidden from Mechanics until labor escrow is funded; before that they see only a ~1-mile radius. Mechanics share live location while a job is active so Drivers can see ETA.
- Device and usage data: IP address, browser type, operating system, pages viewed, referrer, and timestamps.
- Cookies and similar technologies: used for authentication, session management, security, and basic analytics.
2.3 Information from third parties
- Stripe: payment status, payout status, verification results, and dispute notices.
- Authentication providers (e.g., Google) if you choose to sign in with them: name, email, and profile photo.
- Mapping providers for routing and ETA estimates.
3. How We Use Information
- Create and secure your account and verify Mechanics.
- Match Drivers with nearby Mechanics through our waterfall dispatch.
- Process booking fees, hold labor funds in escrow, calculate application fees, and trigger payouts after the 72-hour dispute window.
- Provide chat, call masking, ratings, the 30-day labor warranty workflow, and dispute resolution.
- Detect and prevent fraud, off-platform payment solicitation, abuse, and safety incidents.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
- Send transactional messages (job status, payouts, security alerts) and, with your consent where required, marketing messages you can unsubscribe from at any time.
4. Legal Bases (EEA/UK Users)
Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (to provide the Services), legitimate interests (to keep the marketplace safe and improve it), legal obligation (tax, accounting, fraud prevention), and consent (for optional marketing and certain cookies).
5. How We Share Information
- Between Drivers and Mechanics: nicknames, vehicle year/make/model/engine, symptoms, chat messages, ratings, and (once escrow is funded) the exact service location.
- Service providers: Stripe (payments, Connect payouts, KYC), hosting and database providers, mapping/routing, email and SMS providers, analytics, and customer support tools. They process data on our behalf under contractual safeguards.
- Legal and safety: when required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of users or the public (including investigating off-platform payment requests, threats, or fraud).
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. Payments and Escrow
All payments run through Stripe. Drivers pay a booking fee and labor quote into escrow. Funds are held for a 72-hour dispute window after a job is marked complete, then paid out manually to the Mechanic’s connected Stripe Express account. We collect a platform application fee equal to the booking fee plus 15% of labor.
Off-platform payment is prohibited. If a Mechanic asks for cash, Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, or any other off-platform method, the Driver may report it through the in-app button and the job will be frozen for investigation. Strikes and account suspensions may follow.
7. Location Data — Privacy Shield
- Drivers’ exact location is masked to a roughly 1-mile radius until labor escrow is funded.
- Mechanics’ live location is shared with the assigned Driver only while a job is active and stops when the job ends.
- You can disable location at the OS level, but the Services will be limited or unusable without it.
8. Data Retention
We retain account information while your account is active and for a reasonable period after closure to comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Chat logs and call records are retained for safety review. Aggregated or de-identified data may be kept longer.
9. Security
We use encryption in transit, role-based access controls, row-level-security on our database, and audited payment infrastructure via Stripe. No system is 100% secure; please use a strong, unique password and enable any additional authentication options we offer.
10. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict processing of your personal information, and to object to certain processing. California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, correct, and limit use of sensitive information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To exercise any right, email privacy@mymobilemechanix.app. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
You can also: update your profile in the app, opt out of marketing email via the unsubscribe link, and disable location at the OS level.
11. Children
The Services are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. International Data Transfers
We are based in the United States and process information there. If you access the Services from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to and processed in the U.S. and other countries with different data protection laws.
13. Third-Party Links
The Services may contain links to third-party sites (for example, Stripe’s onboarding pages). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties; review their policies separately.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will notify you in-app or by email. The “Effective date” above shows when this version took effect.
15. Contact Us
